In October, fall is in full swing. Those of us in colder parts of the country are enjoying the bright, rich oranges, reds and golds of the autumn leaves.
This month is also Pastor Appreciation Month and Financial Planning Awareness Month. We celebrate the crucial role pastors play in our congregations and communities. As we honor the pastors who are part of our church family and help make our churches feel like a home away from home, we offer guidance for first time homebuyers in “Are You Ready to Buy Your First Home?”
Scams to swindle people out of their hard-earned money are proliferating. In “Staying Safe with Scams on the Rise,” we provide tips for protecting yourself from phone, text and online fraud.
Even with Medicare coverage, it’s wise not to take healthcare costs in retirement for granted. We explore an MMBB healthcare benefit for members over 65 years old and those with disabilities in “MMBB Helps Retirees Supplement Medicare.”
With weather requiring indoor heating just a stone’s throw away, heating bills are sure to follow. In "Chill Out, Save Big: 10 Winter-Ready Tips to Slash Utility Bills," we share suggestions about ways to reduce your utility costs.
Finally, with inflation on every one’s mind, we explore one of the factors used to measure inflation in “What Is the CPI and Why Is It Important?”
During Pastor Appreciation Month, I share this scripture on leadership. “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” – John 13:13–17 (NIV)
This scripture reminds us that leaders are called to serve those they lead. I’d like to thank the many pastors and clergy who are MMBB members for the sacrifices they make to serve and lead their congregations. You make your communities a better place and improve the lives of your congregants.
My best to you,
Louis
