In September, churches return to their regular schedule of activities after the summer, parents watch their college-aged children begin the fall semester and seminarians start the new school year. With federal student loan repayments beginning again this October after a three-year break, this issue of the Tomorrow newsletter features “Student Debt Relief Options: Do You Qualify?” In this article, we discuss alternatives for those with student loans.
After our three-part series on personal finance in different ages and stages of life, we thought it would be a good idea to follow up with an article focused on retirees with “Managing Your Finances in Retirement.” It may be hard to believe, but it’s not too early to think about Christmas gifts and ways to save on shopping. We explore managing your holiday spending in “Christmas Shopping Starts Now.”
In addition, “What's the Benefit of a Roth 403b?” sheds light on a tax-advantaged, employer-sponsored retirement savings account that may be an option to consider. And MMBB now offers Roth 403(b) premiums for members whose employers have the infrastructure to support them.
Finally, inflation is lower than it was last year, but many consumers are still feeling the pinch when they buy groceries or purchase or rent a home. We look at the reasons for this in “Financial Fact: Inflation is Down, So Why Do Prices Still Feel High?”
As we begin autumn, the season of harvest, I leave you with this scripture. “The person is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.” (Psalm 1:3 -- NIV). This verse reminds us that those who delight in God’s word will grow and bear the fruit of the Spirit – love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness. The person who follows and considers the word of God is blessed and sustained by the abundant supply of the Lord’s divine message (the “water”). Just as fruit does not immediately grow when a tree is planted, a spiritually productive life comes in due season with the consistent watering from God’s word.
I hope you enjoyed your summer and that you have a fruitful fall season.
Sincerely,
Louis
