In October, amidst the vibrant hues of autumn leaves, we celebrate Pastor Appreciation Month. This special time is dedicated to acknowledging and honoring the unwavering commitment, tireless efforts, and spiritual guidance of pastors and ministry leaders. It’s a chance for congregants to express their heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable emotional and spiritual support pastors provide throughout the year, thereby strengthening the bond between leaders and their congregations.
This issue of Tomorrow acknowledges both the financial and psychological needs of pastoral leaders. In “What Lower Interest Rates Mean to Your Wallet,” we explore how the interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve in September might affect your daily life. “Cultivating Ways to Scale Back as Part of Self Care in Ministry” assists pastors who devote their lives to others in finding time to care for themselves.
October 31 is World Savings Day, an international day stressing the importance of contributing to a nest egg and planning for a rainy day or long-term financial goals. Our articles, “10 Ways Americans Overspend” and “Spreading Christmas Cheer Creatively and Affordably,” provide practical suggestions for cutting expenses to help with your savings objectives. Finally, our Financial Fact, “From AGI to Marginal Rates: Tax Terms Simplified for You,” sheds light on some crucial tax terminology.
As Pastor Appreciation Month closes, I share this scripture with you: "The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching." (1 Timothy 5:17, NIV) This verse, often considered the basis for the creation of Pastor Appreciation Month in 1994, emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and respecting church leaders, particularly those who dedicate themselves to spreading and explaining the Word of God. The scripture underscores the value of spiritual leadership and encourages congregations to give thanks for the efforts of pastors and elders in shepherding the faith community.1
At MMBB, we are deeply grateful – not just this month but in every season -- for the vital ways pastors, the clergy and lay staff work together to nurture faith and offer guidance to their communities. We look forward to continuing to serve you on your financial journey.
In Christ,
Louis
