This time of year marks the beginning of the Advent season and the new liturgical year. Many of us light an Advent wreath, keep an Advent calendar, and pray a daily Advent devotional, while we anticipate the commemoration of Jesus Christ’s birth on Christmas Day and His second coming. As we prepare with expectation for the arrival of Emmanuel, which means “God is with us,” it is also the perfect time to express gratitude for God’s bounty in our lives. One way to express thanks is to be a good steward of the Lord’s gifts to us.

As we prepare for family gatherings at Christmas and on New Year’s Day, I share this scripture with you. "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." (Colossians 3:15 NIV). This verse encourages us to welcome God’s peace into our hearts, acting as an arbitrator in our decisions and interactions. This peace, rooted in gratitude and a Christ-centered mindset, can then become a guiding force for harmony and Christian fellowship in our lives.
